TV Shows That Have Created Iconic Fashion Trends

When That '70s Show first started airing on Fox, audiences were immediately transported back to the era of flared jeans, curtain bangs, and roller skates. The '70s fashions made everyone imagine what it would be like to dance at a disco and cruise around in a Volkswagen van. The '70s may have begun over 50 years ago, but the fashions that Donna and Jackie rocked are making a major comeback, and we couldn't be happier about this.

Producer Shonda Rhimes' television show Scandal featured a lawyer named Olivia Pope who only wore tailored designer outfits. Her style aesthetic was classic, with a modern twist. All of the pieces from pantsuits to summer dresses look like they are right off of the runway, and her style has definitely inspired businesswomen around the world. Everyone needs a tailored power suit. If you're looking to start your very own professional wardrobe, consider adding a few Pope-inspired pieces, like a fitted dress coat, sheath dress, and some classic black pumps.

AMC's Mad Men has to be one of the most iconic shows for fashion ever made. The main characters like Don Draper and Roger Sterling look dapper in their suits,  but it's the ladies that really stole the show style-wise. The poodle skirts of the '50s, and then the vibrant patterns of the '60s, along with the hairstyles and exaggerated cat eye makeup have made this show one to remember. Betty Draper, played by January Jones, always had the most fashionable looks on the show. However, it's the costume team that deserves a pat on the shoulder for their attention to detail, and ensuring that each outfit fits the year the season was based in. We wouldn't mind trying out a few of those retro looks today!

The CW's Gossip Girl is one of those shows that it still talked about today, both for its amazing designer duds but also for the drama. The show was based on the novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, who detailed exactly what designers Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen liked to wear. These designers were then included in the actual show. This love of fashion by the main characters, a group of wealthy Manhattanites was translated to the little screen to major acclaim. Blair and Serena were always dressed in the latest from Chanel, Moschino, and Miu Miu just to name a few of the big fashion houses showcased. HBO has decided to reboot the teen drama, and new episodes should drop sometime this year. We can't wait to see which designers have been chosen to clothe the newest members of the Gossip Girl squad.

Freeform's Pretty Little Liars had plenty of drama, and a whole lot of fashion when it came to the four friends/main characters. Spencer, played by Troian Bellisario, always had preppy clothes, which meant a lot of polos and blazers. Emily, played by Shay Mitchell, wore a lot of sporty clothes and athleisure wear. Aria, played by Lucy Hale was known for her boho-chic look, and Hanna, played by Ashley Benson, always attempted to embrace fashion trends. Together, these four characters inspired teens to try out different looks, and embrace their own unique styles.
